How to appraise and sell antiques in Nice: Millon Riviera
Summer on the Côte d’Azur is not just beaches and sunshine, but also a time to discover new opportunities. In Nice, in the heart of the port district, the Millon Riviera auction house appraises and sells antiques, jewellery and works of art. Whether you want to appraise a family heirloom or find a rare vintage interior piece — here they will help reveal the true value of your treasures.
🏛 Millon Riviera Auction House: history and modernity
Millon Riviera is Nice’s branch of the French auction group Millon, which has specialised in appraising and selling works of art, antiques and collectibles for more than 30 years. Since January 2019 the house has been managed by commissaire-priseur Paul-Antoine Vergeau, partner to the group’s president Alexandre Millon.
Located in the port district, the auction house has become a meeting place for art lovers and antique market professionals. In the summer of 2026 Millon Riviera continues to operate, accepting items for appraisal and preparing for the autumn sales.
The house record: in February 2024 a painting by the 18th-century artist Marie-Gabrielle Capet sold in Nice for €403,000 — an absolute record for the artist.
💎 What can be appraised and sold?
Millon Riviera runs around 40 auctions a year and appraises a wide range of items:
- Paintings and works of art
- Jewellery and watches
- Collectible coins and books
- Vintage fashion and perfumes
The house employs several dozen experts — from numismatics to the art of North Africa and the Middle East — which is especially convenient for the resort’s international clientele. Each item is examined by a specialist in the relevant field before being included in the catalogue. As Cécile Dupuis, commissaire-priseur at Millon Riviera, notes: «Our task — not only to appraise an object, but to tell its story so that it finds its buyer».
🔍 The appraisal process: step by step
An appraisal at Millon Riviera goes through several stages:
- Initial inspection of the item by a specialist.
- Research into the provenance and history of the object.
- Assessment of condition.
- Market analysis and current trends.
- Selection of the appropriate auction for sale.
Important: the appraisal is free — in person or online within 48 hours — and the house’s commission is charged only after a successful sale.
📅 Autumn 2026 auctions: what to expect
Autumn is a busy time for auctions. Millon Riviera is preparing several themed sales, including:
- Paintings by southern artists
- Ceramics and art glass
- Old books and manuscripts
“Summer is the perfect time to appraise items so that in autumn they can take a worthy place in our sales,” says Julia Dragone, senior clerk at Millon Riviera.
🏡 Home services: convenience for the client
For those who cannot bring items to Nice, the house organises home visits throughout the Alpes-Maritimes: specialists will come to your home to appraise a collection or the contents of an inheritance — this is especially convenient when sorting belongings after a move or inheritance. The difficulties sometimes involved in obtaining a family legacy on the Côte d’Azur are recounted in the stories of the Fer painting and the Nice Opera’s chandeliers and the villas of Cap d’Antibes.
