Cannes on Any Budget: How to Spend Summer Richly and Inexpensively

Summer in Cannes is not only luxury and glamour, but also a lot of affordable entertainment for everyone. From free open-air film screenings to exciting tours with local residents - in this city, everyone will find something to their liking. We have gathered the best ideas on how to enjoy Cannes without emptying your wallet.

🏛 Historical Walks with Cannes Greeters

You can get to know Cannes not only through guidebooks. The Cannes Greeters initiative offers free walks with local residents who are happy to share their knowledge and love for the city. The routes cover key places: from the famous Croisette promenade to the historic Suquet district and Old Port.

“We show the city as we would show it to friends. It’s not just a tour, it’s an exchange of emotions,” says Mari, one of the participants in the Cannes Greeters project.

In July and August, a city quest game also starts: find 10 digital badges hidden in different corners of Cannes.

🎭 Cultural Life: Cinema, Dances, and Fireworks

Cannes continues to delight guests with a variety of events. Every Sunday until 23:30 on the terrace of the Palais des Festivals, the “Bal des Fous” takes place - a colorful carnival where everyone can join for free. The main condition is a costume corresponding to the evening’s theme.

Fans of spectacles should visit the International Pyrotechnic Art Festival:

  • July 22
  • August 4
  • August 15
  • August 24

These nights turn the bay of Cannes into a real light show.

🎬 Cinema Under the Stars

Until August 27, free open-air film screenings take place in different areas of Cannes. The program includes popular films for the whole family. For example, on July 20, at Place Roubaud, you can see “Super Mario Galaxy: The Film”.

🏝 Day on Sainte-Marguerite Island

For just 19 euros, you can go to the island of Sainte-Marguerite to enjoy nature and tranquility. Here you will find:

  • The Iron Man Mask Museum and Fort Royal
  • The Underwater Eco-Museum of Jason deCaires Taylor with six statues covered in marine flora and fauna

Visiting the museum is now available in the form of a free augmented reality tour.

🏖 Beach Relaxation Without Extra Costs

At Zamenhof Beach, you can rent a sun lounger and umbrella for 11 euros for half a day. And for beach enthusiasts, Mure Rouge offers the rental of a two-seater kayak for 40 euros in the morning.

🍴 Gastronomic Discoveries

At the Forville market in the centre of Cannes, you can try Provencal cuisine dishes at affordable prices. And in the old town, it is worth visiting the Museum of World Discoveries and the Suquet Artists’ Quarter, where the entrance ticket starts from 4.50 euros, and is free for children under 18.
