A forest fire broke out on the border of Nice and Colomar on the morning of June 27
The fire broke out at dawn. The flames managed to engulf about two hectares of dry vegetation, with approximately twenty private buildings dangerously close to it.
The situation was promptly brought under control: 90 firefighters, almost thirty vehicles, and a helicopter were deployed to extinguish the fire, with the helicopter dropping water from the air several times. Although a second outbreak occurred, firefighters managed to completely contain the perimeter by nine in the morning.
One eyewitness - a local resident - reported waking up around half past four in the morning, seeing a huge flame just a hundred meters from his home, and alerting his neighbors with his family. According to him, it was very fortunate that the wind was blowing towards the sea at that moment - otherwise, disaster would have been unavoidable.
Investigators are currently determining the cause. The main theories are an unextinguished cigarette thrown from a car or a firework that may have been set off in celebration of the French football team’s victory over Norway.
Rescuers once again warn: in such heat, any carelessness with fire can instantly turn into a disaster. They strongly urge everyone to strictly follow fire safety rules.
