Security measures in Juan-les-Pins are being strengthened after a series of thefts
On July 10, 2026, the mayor of Antibes, Jean Leonetti, answered questions about security measures in Juan-les-Pins, where 30 cases of theft on the streets have been recorded since May.
Security problem in Juan-les-Pins
At a municipal council meeting, representatives of the opposition party National Union raised the issue of the increase in street crime in the resort area of Juan-les-Pins. Since the beginning of May, around 30 cases of theft of jewelry have been recorded here, although 70% of them have resulted in arrests.
Plans to enhance video surveillance
Mayor Jean Leonetti announced plans to expand the video surveillance system. Currently, there are 279 cameras operating in the city, but authorities are willing to install additional ones. Priority areas will include places with high foot traffic, problematic road sections, and areas with an increased crime rate.
Difficulties with recruiting police officers
Despite plans to create a third police brigade and recruit 20 new officers in the next two years, the mayor acknowledged difficulties with recruitment. Currently, there are 84 employees working in the Antibes municipal police, seven of whom were recently hired.
Mayor’s opinion on the situation
“The residents of Antibes and Juan-les-Pins in general feel safe, but not always and not everywhere, especially in the evenings and during the summer season in certain areas,” Leonetti noted, referring to the results of last year’s surveys.
