Restored film about the wedding of Rainier III and Grace Kelly will be shown in Monaco
On July 20, the premiere of the restored version of the film “Wedding in Monaco” from 1956, dedicated to the marriage of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly, will take place at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco.
Unique cinematic artifact
The film “Wedding in Monaco” was found three years ago in the archives of the Prince’s Palace. The original CinémaScope films required complex restoration using photochemical and digital technologies. The work took several years.
Historical context
As explained by Vincent Vatrican, director of the Monaco Audiovisual Institute: “Prince Rainier categorically refused the proposal from the MGM film company to film the wedding. He wanted the film to be produced specifically in Monaco.” As a result, the filming was entrusted to director Jean Masson.
