School supplies handed out to families in need in Antibes

Coloured pencils, a ruler and a sharpener — school supplies

Until 15 August 2026, families supported by Secours Populaire in Antibes can receive school supplies for the new school year free of charge. The association helps both local residents and refugees.

Who Secours Populaire helps

This year the Antibes branch has already handed over more than 60 kits to almost 180 beneficiary families. Recipients include large families, refugees from Ukraine and Moldova, and local residents who have found themselves in temporary financial difficulties.

What is included in the school kit

The association assembles a complete set — from notebooks and pencils to expensive scientific calculators — and tailors kits to the child’s age, from kindergarten to the upper school years. “We ask for a symbolic €2 per kit so that people do not feel humiliated,” explains the centre’s mediator Arrussia Jandron.

Heat and a shortage of donations complicate the collections

Volunteers note that the abnormal heat makes work more difficult: many families live in accommodation without air conditioning. In addition, the volume of donations has noticeably decreased since the pandemic. An emergency fundraiser raised €10,000 in a week.

Support from the city

Secours Populaire works closely with the Antibes town hall and the Social Action Centre (CCAS) to help the city’s most vulnerable families. “Without this support, children would go to school empty-handed,” says Jandron. More about the association’s work — on the Antibes branch page.

Meanwhile, the heat in the region shows no sign of easing: recently the Maritime Alps declared an ‘orange’ alert at 36 °C, and in Antibes itself six forest areas were closed due to fire risk.
