Man fell from an eight-metre cliff in La Colle-sur-Loup

White chalk cliffs above the sea

On Sunday, 23 August, early in the morning a 29-year-old pedestrian fell from an eight-metre cliff in La Colle-sur-Loup. Rescuers evacuated him to a hospital in Nice; the injured man sustained minor injuries.

Incident on the cliff

At 5:10 on Rue Montmoy in La Colle-sur-Loup an accident occurred: a 29-year-old man fell eight metres from a stone ledge. Firefighters arrived at the scene immediately, according to NiceMag.

The injured man was found in a hard-to-reach area, which required the use of specialised equipment to lift him.

Rescuers’ work

The extraction of the injured man was carried out by a team of specialised rescuers trained to operate in mountainous and hazardous terrain. They used a hoisting device to safely retrieve the man.

Fortunately, the injuries were minor, and the injured man was taken to Pasteur 2 Hospital in Nice for further examination and medical care.

Scale of the operation

Significant resources were involved in the rescue operation: 12 firefighters and six vehicles from the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS 06). Gendarmes were also present at the scene to ensure safety and to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Such incidents serve as a reminder to take care when near cliffs and rocky areas, especially after dark. This summer the department’s rescue services have already been called out to similar incidents more than once: in Antibes, due to the risk of fires, six forest zones were closed, and heavy downpours forced the evacuation of 200 tourists from a campsite in Pégomas.
