Roquebrune: exhibition about travellers in Cap-Martin Park
In Cap-Martin Park until 31 October there is a free outdoor exhibition «Voyage dans le temps» — «Journey through Time». It is an open-air route about those who came to this cape over the last twenty centuries: from ancient travellers to the resort-going public of the post-war years.
A route through the centuries
The town hall opened the exhibition on 25 June. It is organised as a road through the ages — Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Belle Époque, the post-war years, — and each section explains why people set out in the first place: trade, pilgrimage, war, health, the fashion for the seaside. The illustrations for each period were drawn by Angéline Mélin, and it is they that hold the whole exhibition together: it is more for looking at than for reading.
Who used to come here
Roquebrune-Cap-Martin welcomed guests whose names are known the world over: according to the description by the Menton and Riviera tourist office, among the exhibition’s figures are Winston Churchill, Joséphine Baker, Romain Gary, Auguste Rodin and Coco Chanel. The cape, with its pines and villas, remained a place to go to rest and to work throughout the 20th century.
A passport for young explorers
For children there is the «Passeport du petit explorateur»: along the route they must look for clues, complete observation tasks and collect stickers. The completed route ends with a full set of pictures — it works both as a walk and as a one-hour game.
