Shots fired again in La Frayère in Cannes: second time in a week

Police tape cordons off a crime scene against a graffiti wall

On the evening of 1 September, shots were fired again in the La Frayère district of Cannes-la-Bocca — exactly one week after a similar incident in the same courtyard. Police cordoned off the area around the Saint-Jeanne housing estate; there are no officially reported injuries.

Shots fired in La Frayère: new incident in Cannes

On Tuesday, 1 September, at around 21:30, residents of the La Frayère district heard several shots in the car park between blocks G, H and I of the Saint-Jeanne housing complex. According to witnesses, two masked, armed men arrived in a car, opened fire on a vehicle in the car park and fled before the police arrived.

Reaction of residents and police

Local residents are frightened and outraged. One of the neighbourhood’s residents admitted to ici.fr: “I lock myself at home. When something happens, we keep quiet — we are afraid they will burn a car or an apartment.” One eyewitness to the incident on 1 September told Cannes Tendances: “It was a shock.” Three units of the municipal and national police, including the anti-crime unit (BAC), were dispatched to the scene: they cordoned off the area and searched the courtyard with torches late into the night, collecting shell casings.

Investigation and theories

There are no officially reported casualties. However, one witness said they saw a young man with a leg wound who left the scene before the police arrived — the police have not confirmed this information. The casings have been sent for examination, and the suspects — two men wearing masks — are being sought.

Second incident in a week

A week earlier, on 25 August, shots were fired at cars in the same car park of the Saint-Jeanne housing complex: one vehicle was hit directly and another was damaged by a ricochet. As with this incident, there were no casualties. Residents of the neighbourhood, where on 10 December 2025 a shooting resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man, link the events to a reshuffling of spheres of influence among drug traffickers.

Increased security measures

After the August incident the Cannes town hall already increased night patrols: two patrol cars now circulate through Cannes-la-Bocca, passing through La Frayère every 30–35 minutes, and the municipality has requested additional forces from the state. By an odd coincidence, a meeting between residents and the authorities on security issues had been scheduled in the neighbourhood for the evening of 1 September. Residents doubt patrols will be sufficient without systematic work to tackle drug trafficking in the area.

Similar security problems in Cannes are being addressed in different ways: this summer police opened fire while detaining a motorist, and a month earlier in the city recovered Patek Philippe watches stolen from local residents.
