Painted Allianz Riviera seats raised over €90,000
Twenty-two seats of the Allianz Riviera stadium, transformed into works of art, were sold at auction on 23 September and brought in more than €90,000. All proceeds went to four associations that help those affected by the 14 July 2016 attack and their families.
The auction took place at the stadium itself as part of OGC Nice’s commemorative season for the tenth anniversary of the tragedy. It was organised by Allianz and OGC Nice together with the Nice art collective WholeStreet: the artists painted the seats, and each became a unique item. The starting price was €500 per seat, and the auction was conducted by Agata Vouazen from Nice Enchères (Nice Mag).
The money was divided between Promenade des Anges, Life For Nice, Mémorial des Anges and Une Voie des Enfants. This is not the club’s first commemorative initiative: in July the Nice football club honoured the memory of the victims of the attack already on the pitch.
Among the participants was Léa Vandeveld, 29. She was born in Paris, grew up in Bali and has lived in Nice for ten years. According to her, she always works with already used items and gives them a second life, and the stadium seats are of the same series for her (Nice Premium). She usually donates exhibition proceeds to charity: food banks, animal shelters, telethons.
